The first taster session with 10 students at the CKA full time dojo went extremely well.
The three and half hour session held on 10th of August 2009 started with an information sharing session about XMA, the purpose and goals of XMA, how the classes will run and showing video footage to the students of potential end products.
The class then prepared the first XMA XF1 (Extreme Form 1) and learned about choreography and performance, both essential parts of XMA.
With many students already very flexible, and others working towards the full splits and beyond, we spend some time talking and practicing safe stretches to improve flexibility - especially in the legs.
What followed was an intense warm up session (to music) and some XMA basics and other exercises, towards the completion of the XMA XF1. Students did very well, despite the length of the course and we could not believe how quickly the time flew by.
At the end most students were able to perform XMA F1 flawlessly, albeit a little bit slower than desired. However, practice makes perfect and I am sure they will perfect the speed and timing to be accompanied by the music in no time.
The trial run with music did not have too many hic-ups.
