This page will give you some insight into our club and what to expect when training with us.
Firstly you will find a very friendly, energetic, and supportive group of people training together in a safe atmosphere. We have classes to suit everyone such as children’s only, adults only and mixed classes. We even have an Early Bird class at 6.40am on Fridays and run classes 6 days a week at our Full Time Dojo in the heart of Colchester.
YOUR FIRST CLASS
Just turn up at our venue in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, dressed in something comfortable (tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt is advisable). If you have moved from another area where you did karate feel free to turn up in your gi, even if it’s a different colour or style to ours. Beginners will be invited to line up to the right facing the instructor. All classes follow a warm-up after which some basic techniques (Kihon), Kata (forms) and Kumite (Sparring) are practiced. Everybody is given instruction according to his/her ability and grade and you will not be asked to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with or ready to do. Classes end with a cool down & stretching session
LESSON FEES
We use monthly payment system where you train as much as you like for one monthly fee payable by direct debit on the 1st or 15th of every month. Look out for vouchers in magazines or at various events through the year entitling you to free training sessions. You can cancel your Direct Debit at any time and are not tied in to a minimum period expect where you have applied for a special deal. For example if you take advantage of our special to sign up for two months in advance and receive a FREE training suit we will require a minimum payment of two months even if you decide to quit after one month. That’s just fair given that you would have received a free karate suit costing almost as much as your monthly fee.
GRADING FEES
Grading fees varies depending on whether you have to travel to Southend or whether an instructor have to attend our club to do the colour belt gradings. All black belt gradings take place at designated courses across the country under Sensei Masao Kawasoe. Your belt is included in the grading fee at all gradings which will also include a short training session.
Currently all our gradings takes place at the dojo and are conducted by the UKTKF England Squad coach, Sensei Alan Parish.
Gradings for Lil’Dragons and Stripy belts (pre-kyu grades) takes place every 3 months,w whilst full grades (kyu) takes place every 4 months. You are not expected to take a grading every time it takes place, nor would you be allowed to grade if you have not attended the required amount of classes, or reached the required standard for your grade.
